Team Lembeh: Mario Vitalini

Name:
Mario Vitalini

Nationality:
Italian

How long have you been taking underwater images?
18 years

What camera are you using:
Olympus OMD EM1 in Nauticam housing. As per lenses I use the Panasonic 45mm macro, Olympus 60mm macro, Panasonic 8mm fisheye, Olympus 12-50mm
together with Nauticam WWL1 wet lens and Nauticam CMC and Subsea +10 wet macro converters for super macro. In terms of lighting I use Inon Z330 and
Sea&Sea D1 strobes and Inon S2000 for snooting and of camera strobe. For backlighting I also use an FIT 2400 lumens torch/video light.

Which critter do you want to capture most?
I do have a sweet spot for frogfish and shrimp, however I don’t dive with a critter in mind, I’m happy shooting whatever is in a good position.

What techniques do you hope to improve on during the event?
I like to work on Backlighting and snooting bit more.

Which of the three categories are you most excited about shooting (Nudibranch, invertebrates/fish, wide angle) and why?
I love the challenge that is lighting a wide angle shot and that is probably why this kind of photography is my favorite. However, I try to get in a frame of mind relevant to the destination I’m diving. For this Shootout, I’m really excited about capturing good invertebrates and fish behavior.

Have you been to Lembeh or Gulen before? If so, what advice can you offer your fellow team members?
I’ve never been to Gulen but have visited Lembeh a few times. To my fellow teammates I would recommend to trust your dive guides, they know where to look for different critters that to the untrained eye are almost impossible to spot.
